RCM curriculum

Repertoire, Technique, Musicianship &  Musical Literacy

The piano class curriculum typically includes four main components: repertoire, technique, musicianship, and musical literacy.

  • Repertoire refers to the pieces that the student will learn to play on the piano. This can include classical pieces, popular songs, or other types of music that the student is interested in.
  • Technique refers to the physical skills and techniques needed to play the piano, such as hand and finger positioning, posture, and pedaling.
  • Musicianship includes elements such as rhythm, tempo, dynamics, and expression, which are necessary for the student to play music in a musical and artistic way.
  • Finally, musical literacy involves the ability to read and understand sheet music, as well as knowledge of music theory and the elements of music.
